Abstract

 

Ammonium-ion batteries have recently attracted considerable interest as promising candidates for next-generation aqueous energy storage systems, owing to their intrinsic safety with water electrolyte, cost-effectiveness, and rapid ionic diffusion kinetics. Among various electrode materials, nickel ferrocyanide has demonstrated particular promise for efficient NH4+ storage, attributed to its facile synthesis, stability, and favorable electrochemical kinetics. These advantageous characteristics translate into superior electrochemical performance. In this thesis, nickel ferrocyanide is investigated from three main aspects. Firstly, a co-insertion strategy of NH4+ and Ni2+ ions is employed to enhance the reversibility of Ni2Fe(CN)6. Secondly, ammonium-based nickel ferrocyanide (NH4)2NiFe(CN)6 is explored. Lastly, the effect of different size ranges of (NH4)2NiFe(CN)6 particles on electrochemical performance is evaluated. This work provides design strategies toward the development of safe and reversible aqueous ammonium-ion energy storage systems.
