Title: Quantum Computing, from concepts to practical applications.
Duration: 1,5 - 2 hours
Abstract:
The term “Quantum Computing” does not sound unfamiliar any longer, neither in the world of IT, neither in multiple business contexts. Yet, many professionals, researchers and students are still not fully aware of its value for our society, industry and even the whole planet. Classical and Quantum Computing complement each other to solve the most complex challenges, leveraging hybrid algorithms. This lecture will demystify all secrets of Quantum Computing, from its fundamentals of Qubits, of Quantum Gates and of Quantum Circuits, to advanced applications like Quantum Machine Learning and Quantum Optimization. Of course, the essentials of a Quantum Computing System and how it can be accessed, are addressed as well. The evolution of the stability, performance, scalability, and speed, allow us to talk about “Quantum Utility Computing”. Attendees will also get insights about the main uses cases and how early adopters apply Quantum Computing. The other side of the “Quantum coin” is the defense against attacks by Quantum Computers on our encrypted assets, solved by Quantum-Safe encryption algorithms. The session reveals the audience why, when and how Post-Quantum Cryptography must be deployed in an organization. This lecture will also contain demonstrations to illustrate the concepts discussed.

Lecturer
Eric Michiels is Executive Architect and Quantum Technical Ambassador at IBM. As such, he presents and demonstrates Quantum Computing, Quantum Algorithms and Quantum-Safe technologies at diverse organizations and in the academic world. As Qiskit Advocate, he also leads practical workshops leveraging Python and Qiskit, the Open-Source SDK for Quantum. Eric might be accompanied by another team member of the IBM Quantum Squad he is leading.
