Abstract
This thesis explores the fracture behavior of customizable coatings, addressing the increasing need for specialized solutions to choose the most suitable coating for various applications. The research focuses on two groups of coatings: the first group aims to optimize mechanical properties, including yield strength and fracture toughness, by employing an innovative approach in the deposition of a-C:H:Cr coatings. The second group investigates the fracture behavior of Cu-Zr TFMGs, uncovering the driving force and mechanism behind vein-like and columnar fracture patterns.
This thesis contributes novel insights into the field of materials science and surface engineering, offering the potential for high-performance coatings with customizable mechanical properties and a deeper understanding of their fracture behavior under various conditions.
