Conférence du département de Chimie

"Zeolites: A Glorious Past & a Bright Future ?" Prof. Jean-Pierre GILSON Laboratory for Catalysis & Spectrochemistry, ENSICAEN, Caen, France

Catégorie : conférence (grand public)
Date : 16/10/2023 17:00 - 16/10/2023 20:00
Lieu : CH01
Orateur(s) : Jean-Pierre GILSON
Organisateur(s) : direction Chimie

After a brief overview of zeolites, I will present some of their current applications in the fields of oil refining and petrochemistry. This will highlight the strategic importance of these “boiling stones” in our current lives and their potential in a greener world and more circular economy. Namely, some of the current processes found in oil refining will be applicable to more renewable sources such as biomass and plastic wastes.

I will select one recent example to show how the engineering of zeolites can help to facilitate difficult separations in the context of the energy transition (e.g., separate CH4 from CO2 during biogas purification)

I will then use two case studies to illustrate their potential in our everyday lives and in health care, in particular cancer treatment. For instance, nanometer-sized zeolites are strong contenders in the theragnostic of glioblastoma (brain cancer).
