Abstract:
This study
identifies the structures that intervene in the process of
self-employment of migrants and analyses the needs of migrants, as well
as the problems they encounter in the entrepreneurship market in the
Meuse-Rhine cross-border region. Are the initiatives in place sufficient
in quality and quantity to meet migrant needs? Are they known and
perceived by the audiences they address as credible and effective? We
employ a participatory strategic analysis involving actors from a wide
range of socio-economic background: migrants, businesses, the public
sector, researchers, and financial institutions. We find a huge gap
between the needs of migrant entrepreneurs and the specific programmes,
notwithstanding the remarkable efforts already made and the innovative
initiatives put in place. The gap also varies across the host countries
of migrants.
