POSTPONED | Fluorinated sulfoximines: preparation, properties and use as source of fluorinated radicals under photoredox catalysis

The topic of this talk will focus on both the generation of perfluoroalkyl radicals by the help of photoredox catalysis and on the synthesis of S-perfluoroalkyl sulfoximines.

The topic of this talk will focus on both the generation of perfluoroalkyl radicals by the help of photoredox catalysis and on the synthesis of S-perfluoroalkyl sulfoximines.

The S-perfluoroalkyl sulfoximines are unique members of a very peculiar family of sulfur derivatives. They are employed as a source of electrophilic, nucleophilic or radical perfluorinated groups with widespread examples.[1] Since 10 years, our group has dedicated an intensive research program to the preparation of highly functionalized S-perfluorinated sulfoximines. We intend to summarize our main results in the field of their synthesis.

The revival of photoredox catalysis has a particular impact in organofluorine chemistry.[2] The (per)fluoroalkyl radicals are indeed reactive species which are very frequently encountered in the literature. As a result, an increasing number of reports using photoredox catalysis were recently published, in particular for the synthesis of fluorine-containing molecules. Our contribution in this domain was the extension to multicomponent reactions. During this talk, our efforts towards the difunctionalization of double bonds by both a perfluoroalkyl group and a wide range of nucleophiles will be highlighted. Special attention will be paid to the use of sulfoximines as perfluoroalkyl source of radicals.
