Abstract: “Jobless recoveries refer to post-crisis periods that are relatively poor in jobs created given the growth of output. We provide a new stylized fact that such recoveries tend to display a strong growth in individual hours of work. We then present evidences of the incentives for employers in Belgium to favour individual hours over new jobs. We also explore a mechanism that could incentivize workers to provide extra hours when they fear of being fired.”
