Informatique: Francqui Chair "Preventive Debugging: from Test to Repair and Back Again"
In the context of its newly remodelled master program, the Faculty of Computer Science and the Namur Digital Institute (NaDI) invite, thanks to an International Francqui Chair, the Professor Yves Le Traon from the University of Luxembourg. He will give a series of lectures on software testing.
Software is everywhere from the largest systems managing our online reservations to the games on our smartphones. As a result, software glitches are also everywhere leading to various consequences such as leaving 75,000 passengers stranded in various airports of the world because of IT failures or more tragically bugs that affects airbag deployment in cars, not forgetting privacy and security issues. Software testing aims at discovering these problems before it is too late. Various techniques have been devised to target different concerns such as functionality, security, performance etc. Yet, the current continuous development practices (DevOps) and the size of software systems -- often measured in millions of lines of source code -- push test automation to the limit and even challenge the perspectives researchers and practitioners have on software testing and its link to other maintenance activities (program repair notably).
This chair, entitled “Preventive Debugging: from Test to Repair and Back Again”, will cover the contributions of the world-renowned Professor in software testing. This chair takes places in the “software and systems” pillar of the Namur Digital Institute (NaDI) and contributes to the kick off of the software testing course in Faculty of Computer Science’s newly remodelled master program.
The inaugural lecture will take place on Monday, November 19 at 6 PM in the I02 auditorium of the Faculty of Computer Science. More information on the programme and biography of our invited professor can be found here:
