Date : 23/05/2012 17:00 - 23/05/2012 18:00
Lieu : CHU Mont-Godinne, auditoire Herremans

Abstract:
Head and Neck Cancer (HNC) nowadays
represent the 8th most frequent tumor type in our Western Countries.
Cornerstone treatment modalities are either surgery and/or radiotherapy,
often combined with sensitizing chemotherapy.
After years of
relative stagnation from technical viewpoint, modern Radiotherapy has
evolved these 15 last years on an exponential frame thanks to the advent
of informatics, robotics and medical imaging.
The presentation will be divided in three steps :
- « past ». A short review of the technological milestones paving the history of radiotherapy will be presented ;
- « present », or how patients are nowadays treated according to the best standards of care ;
- « future ». What will be tomorrow’s radiotherapy ?
In
the last point, special attention will be paid to the concepts of
automated segmentation and adaptive radiotherapy which are the subjects
of ongoing research projects at our radiotherapy facility, held in the
frame of the NARILIS structure.
